The first annual Ancient Peaks MTB Classic, hosted at the 14,000 acre Santa Margarita Ranch, just twenty minutes from downtown San Luis Obispo, provides the perfect venue for California’s next big mountain bike race. With 30+ miles of existing trails and many more being developed this will be host to some of the best cross-country and downhill racing on the west.

Web registration is available. Closes on 2011-07-21.

Cross Country

Course Description: The Ancient Peaks MTB Classic cross-country course is a 30 mile figure eight loop that starts and finishes in the main festival site. The race starts with a fast fire road progressing through multiple shaded creek crossings. Once done with the creeks the trail makes a sharp left and begins its first steep accent onto an undulating knife edge ridge, a few quick drops and power climbs lead to the first single track downhill with high speeds and bermed turns it’s a quick mile long decent until linking up with the connecting trail that continues on single track for another seven miles. This trail follows hillsides and a long creek bed boasting smooth turns, great tread and two bridged creek crossings before its second big climb up to the Northwestern side of the ranch. From this high point the trail descends once again.

Downhill

Course Description: The Ancient Peaks MTB Classic Downhill course features a freshly developed race course designed and built by the best downhillers in the area. The course pushes you to the limits of fitness, technique and handling in a remarkably diverse and beautiful trail system.
